It’s the weekend baby. Not only the weekend but a holiday weekend. With Memorial Day comes an extended weekend and you know what we do on extended weekends. We travel! Memorial Day unofficially kicks off the summer. With summer comes longer daylight hours, children out of school, and time to start using those PTO days that you been holding on to for dear life.
Think back, some of you might have to think back further than others but, when was the last time you took a road trip? I’m talking about a real road trip. As a child growing up with not a lot of resources we didn’t have the opportunity to take road trips. Now, that I have two quarters to rub together I can take a road trip. Road trips are a great way to make new memories. Before you start packing for your trip take a minute to download my favorite road trip application.
iExit helps you decide where to take pitstops when traveling US interstates. It uses your device’s location to determine where you are on the highway, and then displays upcoming exits in real time.
The default mode shows you a summary of each exit ahead, but you can also search among upcoming exits. Search upcoming exits for businesses (like Starbucks, Cracker Barrel, or KOA Campgrounds), amenities (like WiFi, Playground, or Truck Parking), rest stops, hotel deals, and much much more.
Your GPS will tell you how to get there. iExit will tell you where to stop along the way.
Don’t believe iExit will change the way you travel? Ask The New York Times, USA Today, Consumer Reports, CNET, MacWorld, The Today Show, ABC News, and many more. Here’s what CNN had to say about iExit:
“Do you have enough gas to wait until the next town? Is there a bathroom coming up any time soon? Need to buy a tent at Wal-Mart? The iExit app will tell you exactly what lies ahead.”
Don’t take another road trip without iExit!
** Important Notes **
● Your device must have GPS hardware or a connection to the internet for iExit to display results based on your location.
● iExit is compatible with iOS 7.0 and later.
● iExit only works in the United States on major exit-based highways.
3 essential things you need to have for a memorable road trip!
How many of us have them?
Ones we can depend on
How many of us have them?
Before we go any further, lets be
We have all heard the saying, “time flies when you’re having fun.” What better way to have fun than with your friends on a road trip. Now, you can’t take along just any friend. You have to take that friend that isn’t afraid to jump out of the car and pee on the side of the road. You must take along the friend that has a positive attitude because nothing can ruin a trip quicker than a negative Nancy. A road trip is a great way to bond with your friend especially if you don’t see them as often as you would like. It is a great opportunity to catch up and have a little girl chat.
Music is something that can get you going even when you don’t want to get going. Having great music on a road trip is a sure way to beat boredom. When I crank up my music I like to roll down my windows, not sure why that’s the case. On Spotify, you’ll find readymade playlists to match your mood, put together by music fans and experts. The below songs will work wonders on your road trip. Hunty, a good playlist will have you there a no time and you won’t be the one saying, “are we there yet.”
- Pop Lock and Drop It
- Boom Boom Power by Blackeye Peas
- Ms. Jackson by Outkast
- Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira
- Holla Backgirl by Gwen Stefani
- Crank That by Soulja Boy
- Sing by Ed Sheeran
- Turn Down For What by Lil Jon
You didn’t think I would leave food out, did you? If you know me, of course not. In the African American community, we eat for everything. Someone gets married, we eat. Someone dies, we eat. Someone get a job promotion, we eat. Someone birthday, we eat. Going on a road trip is not different, we eat! Now it’s time to make a decision. Do you want to maintain your clean eating or do you want to throw it out the window while on your road trip? I vote to throw the cleaning eating out the window but if you want to take some healthy snacks on your road trip here are a few options:
- Baby carrots
- Celery sticks
- Dried fruit
- Salad in a jar
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Whole grain dry cereal
I’m yawning as I was typing the above list. If you want a little more excitement in your life on your road trip then you are probably like me and go straight for:
- Little Debbie
- Candle bar
- Water (why did I even mention water? It’s just like those people who order a double cheeseburger meal super-sized with extra cheese and then say they want a diet coke. I’m just like huh, that doesn’t even make sense).
I hope you have a great weekend and go start packing for that impromptu road trip. Don’t forget to download the app. that I mention above, trust me it is a lifesaver. What are your must-have essentials on road trips? Comment below and share via social media by clicking on the buttons below.
